Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, said in a call with analysts that he is optimistic about the coming year as user growth, live service and new headlines come up.

EA Sports EA ended its fourth financial quarter with 580 million users, with growth from FIFA, Apex Legends and The Sims. FIFA Mobile has increased the number of new players by 80% compared to a year ago. The number was further exacerbated when EA removed Russian and Belarusian customers from its market during the quarter due to the war in Ukraine.

In a call with analysts after the FY4 results were announced, Wilson said, “EA has delivered commendable growth in FY22, a record year across all major metrics of our business.” Total players, engagement in our games and live services, net bookings and the underlying profit. Inspired by new players joining titles such as EA Sports FIFA, Apex Legends and The Sims, and new players we welcome through our acquisitions, we’ve grown our global player network to over 580 million unique active accounts.

Wilson credits EA’s network of gamers with intellectual property, talent and live services. Apex Legends Mobile is launching this month and new updates are coming. EA’s development includes six more upcoming EA Sports titles.

Upcoming titles from EA include Need for Speed, Dead Space, Star Wars, The Sims, Skate, Bioware franchise and Lord of the Rings. The company has two new studios in Seattle working on new projects, developing an undisclosed motive studio and working with EA and others across its global studio team.

EA is dropping FIFA later this year.

EA has new titles like Dead Space Coming. And he has announced a new mobile game based on the upcoming Lord of the Rings. But Wilson did not mention Battlefield 2042, which was lower than expected last fall during the analyst call.

“Every year we continue to provide more positive experiences,” he said.

The following year, EA said that its football titles would move to a new EA Play FC brand, as it had moved away from its nearly 30-year-old FIFA license. This fall, the FIFA football title will be the last licensed EA sports game in the series. One of the advantages is that EA will not have to pay a licensing fee to FIFA after this year.

In its FY2023 title slate, EA announces that it has F122 in Q1, FIFA in Q2 and Madden NFL, Need for Speed and NHL in Q3, and Q4. Five headlines in 2023 (quarter ending March 31, 2023).

These titles include the PGA Tour, a major intellectual property, a partner title, a remake and a sports title. Chris Sue, Chief Financial Officer, said that after the storm of change in Apple’s Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA), EA’s advertising spending returns have returned to normal, focusing on user privacy rather than targeted advertising.

EA has seen its fiscal year 2022 bookings reach $ 7.515 billion, up 20% from a year earlier.

“Games are now the center of people’s lives, and young audiences have more power as consumers,” Wilson said. “General Alpha, General Z and Zen Y are digital natives and these are the first generation of games. They complement gambling as their top entertainment choice. Gamers on our network use games to connect with friends and express themselves, and the use of entertainment and sports deepens socially.
