In fact, since 2014, there have been more and more requests from parents of young children for CTM therapy. Over the past few years, the CTM team has provided an increasing number of pregnant women with the problem of illicit drug addiction. To meet this growing demand and provide an offer that meets the specific needs of this target population, the CTM team created the “Parent-Child” project. Also, CTM is the only therapeutic center at the national level and in neighboring countries that welcomes methadone replacement parents with pregnant women and their children.

“This program is often the only opportunity for drug-addicted parents to stay close to their child and avoid a separation or even to locate the child. Thanks to a recently signed agreement between Rehaklinik and the Ministry of Health, the project now has a legal framework and its own funding -Essential elements for improving child support “, underlined by Dr. Michelle Nathan.

The current law on health insurance does not provide any assistance for children who go to therapy with their parents. Such coverage exists in neighboring countries such as Germany or Belgium and the CNS reimburses the equivalent rate provided by the relevant law.

Between 2019 and 2021, CTM welcomed 12 women, including 10 children and 2 pregnant women. The age of babies varies from 4 weeks to 3 years. Currently, the Therapeutic Center has 4 spaces as part of the “Parent-Child” project, which will necessarily require expansion of the premises to increase capacity.

Currently, a mother is spending a month at CTM with her child for a stabilization and integration phase. This stage allows us to know and observe the parent-child relationship. Then child support system (nursery) and parental support (external service) are established. It allows parents to participate in therapeutic workshops, psychotherapeutic groups, conduct separate interviews with their psychologists and learn how to organize their daily lives. It aims to assist parents in enhancing their skills and resources and in their efforts to create an environment for their child that promotes their development at all levels.

A second mother has recently been welcomed who is in the process of preparing for the return of her child. 2 guardians are currently on the waiting list.

CTM also works closely with SCAS (Central Social Support Services).

“Our main concern is the well-being of the child, but also the parents. To avoid the child’s place in a home or in a foster family, SCAS / Youth Court will have to go through therapy for a drug addicted parent. Following this therapy with his child is doubly beneficial. Strengthens the child’s bonds and reduces the risk of re-infection, “said Paulet Lenart, Minister of Health.

Thanks to CTM’s “Parent-Child” project, 2 children were able to return to one home and one foster family in 2021. “This is such a precious moment that shows us how beneficial parent-child bonding is for therapeutic success. Being with a child improves and stabilizes the parent in his or her program and empowers him or her in the recovery project,” said Michelle Reich, CTM’s care manager. “Especially since, outside of Cirdall Schlas therapy here, we provide follow-up for parents and their children.” To this end, CTM collaborates with a number of external partners to provide family follow-up (JDH parenting services, Family First, Crèche Kiddies, early rehabilitation, motherhood, etc.). This internal and external support network strengthens stability and reduces risk . Relapses
