Find out what each camera is for on your mobile and tell them separately.
Nowadays in the market we can find mobiles with two, three, four or even five cameras. Marketing does a lot. The number of cameras or the size of the megapixels makes it possible to sell more mobile terminals.
We have the idea that the cameras in our terminal perform various specific functions. We know we have one primary camera and others secondary, but … do we know what cell phone cameras do? We will explain below what each camera in our terminal is used for.
The main bedroom
The main camera used by default on mobile phones for snapshots. The addition of artificial intelligence allows it to automatically detect scenes and apply adjustments to get the best shots. On some mobiles, this artificial intelligence makes it possible to highlight a certain color and leave the rest of the scene in black and white.
If we go into more technical details, the main camera usually has a wide viewing angle. This angle makes it easy to capture the background of the photo shoot scene. It is usually around 60º. Focal apertures on low-cost phones can vary from f / 1.5 to f / 2.8.
There is more work to be done in telephoto lenses. While most smartphone cameras allow you to crop images and zoom in on results, devices with separate telephoto lenses do so optically.
Thanks to the telephoto lens, we get the opposite effect of wide angle, since the telephoto lens brings us closer to the image we want to take without losing focus. The difference between this camera and digital zoom is that it uses digital zoom software to crop images to maximize results, resulting in lower quality results.
Wide angle camera
As their name suggests, these are cameras that have increased viewing angles These are usually used in situations where the image we want to take does not fit the scene. Thus, wide-angle or ultra-wide-angle cameras move the image away, thanks to their wide viewing angle.
Therefore, these cameras are ideal for taking pictures of distant landscapes or tall buildings where we want to be present in the whole building or landscape scene. These cameras store the power of focus using a specific focus.
In an effort to improve the amount of detail and sensitivity in photos, some manufacturers have incorporated monochrome cameras into mobile devices. The sensors of these cameras do not include a color filter, but the sensors produce different images which are assembled by each manufacturer for the algorithm used for the images. Through this we achieve that different aspects of the images are captured and we can achieve better results when we first take the photo.
Infrared cameras are those that allow to obtain thermal images. The use of these cameras is usually varied. The most common is used to improve the face unlock feature. Apple uses this technology to be able to unlock a better face.
Time-of-flight (ToF) camera
Cameras have a sensor that emits a beam of infrared light to measure depth during flight or during flight. By calculating the time elapsed since the light reached the object we are photographing and then returning to the sensor, they analyze the depth of each element of the image.
What we get with this camera is advanced 3D scanning. Used for face recognition because they are cheap and do not require external lighting, they have moved behind our terminal for 3D photography, enhancing virtual reality and creating more precise bokeh effects.
The macro camera makes it possible to capture small details quickly over very short distances without losing focus. With this kind of camera and a little practice we can get a very good capture of everything we can miss with the naked eye. We can take pictures of water droplets, plants, animals to see the smallest details of our world.
As we can see, there are many types of cameras in our mobile devices today. Most importantly, sometimes it’s not the number of cameras we have that matters the most. The most important thing is to work behind the scenes. Larger companies usually do better post-processing to improve the captured images and to improve the photos.
At the time, Google used a few cameras and took very good pictures. All this is due to the algorithm used to combine images and get a good result. Let’s not forget that more megapixels does not mean better photos, since everything depends on the treatment, as they say, they create the image obtained.
