The best anime of every decade

The best anime can start a fight if people ask a specific room. This is a question that expresses very strong emotions, because anime creates strong emotional connection. I’ve already said, for example, what I think is the best anime episode. But comparing a series that has been running for twenty-five years to a series built for only twelve episodes is a lot like comparing Walrus with Apple. Is it possible to break even the best anime of every decade?

Dear reader, I have tried. When the decade in question was hard to navigate (thus, all of them), I found that I relied heavily on criteria. Inheritance. Was there a certain favorite series of every decade that left an unforgivable mark on the genre and / or its reception, without which the world of anime would not be the same? The answer, for every decade, was usually “yes”.

1960s: Tetsuwan Atom, aka Astro Boy (1963)

Atomic Tetsuwan The first Japanese cartoon made specifically for a half-hour block on television. Although a three-minute short series, Japanese TV previously supplied its half-hour cartoon blocks. Flintstones. E.g., Atomic Tetsuwan – More familiar to Western viewers CA A Astro Boy – Became the first “real” anime. The series was so popular that it went abroad and created an anime market in the West. Even big-eyed and fancy hair-like still-used anime trope bunch roots Atomic Tetsuwan. This is very important in the history of anime.

1970: Ashita No Joe, aka Kaler Joe (1970)

One of the first sports anime, Ashita or Joe There was an institution in Japan in the 1970s and its effects are still being felt. The show’s animation also looks amazing, and its scoring rules. Looking at the clips of Ashita No Joe, it is hard to believe that the show was released in 1970. You can draw a straight line of Joe punching in the ring, bleeding from his mouth, lots of dark lines, showing Erin Jaeger the darkness of forty years later.

1980: Dragon Ball / Dragon Ball Z

A kind of Bangachitra

The 1980s were known as the “golden age” of anime. We’re just talking about a TV series here, but nothing better than an animated film. Studio Ghibli was formed in the 80’s. Akira, the ghost in the shellAnd a stream of classic Ghibli movies – including My neighbor Totoro – All came out in the 80’s.

Hayao has left one of Miyazaki’s top animators to start his own studio, is terribly disappointed and has given the world Neon Genesis Evangelion. This series and its weird, bizarre original ending is one of my favorite things that exists. Evangelism Parades like this is a Mac anime, but at its core, it is one of the most influential investigations into frustration in the history of television. Also, it is a real work of art for two teenage girls in the elevator to be able to balance the biting action scene while treating each other calmly. Evangelism It’s so good that while it’s very weird in many ways, it’s still ridiculously popular, especially in Japan. Get ready for Evangelism Pachinko and similar machines. And the theme song! Get on the robot, Shinji, boy.

2000: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (2009)

My son Edward Elrick is giving some nerves to the Fulmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Remember when I said Neon Genesis Evangelion Was that one of my favorite things that existed? Well, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Also fall into this camp. The last time I checked, there was still the popular opinion that it was as close to a perfect anime as you were going to get. Brotherhood Following Hiromu Arakawa’s manga is much closer and more bizarre than the previous one Fullmetal alchemist The series means it nails the dynamic and heartbreaking story of the overall character – the sniff – the friendship that creates Fully metallic Such a victory

What makes the characters really Fully metallic Such a brilliant glitter Edward Elrick is the treasure of a hero. But the supporting cast – like Izumi Curtis shouting “I’m a housewife !!!” Before kicking ass – just as strong. Also, Fully metallic One woman wrote, so bonus points! Huh huh!

2010: Attack on Titan (2013)

Attack on Titan

Listen. It is impossible to surpass the 2010s, as they can be seen in the second golden age of anime, through which we are still alive. If I attribute it to personal taste, I probably want the crown Tatami Galaxy Here, though, it’s like a Spiderman circle-scoring situation with each series I respectfully mentioned.

But, internationally in terms of raw cultural power, you have to give it a go Attack of the Titans. Try transporting yourself to 2014 for a second. Attack of the Titans There was a fucking incident. One of the most persuasive arguments you can make is that the series catapulted the modern wave of anime popularity in the United States and elsewhere and drove the anime into the era of streaming. Attack of the Titans. The Polygon hints at one of the most popular TV shows overall. The world.

Also, when I started looking Attack of the Titans, The influence of the incredibly strong and fresh cast of female characters cannot be overstated. I was the mikasa for Halloween that year, because it was so rare – especially then – to see (arguably) the biggest villain on a female show. And that’s not sexual, in addition. For the various controversies in his politics, Attack of the Titans Always continue this thread with Gabi, who is one of the most interesting characters of 2020 so far.

Yes, Giant Slayer I know this is by far the most popular anime. But I would discuss Attack of the Titans This helped pave the way for popularity. Also … uh … I think it’s overrated please don’t hit me.

Honorable mention: Puella Magi Madoka Magika, Mob Psycho 100, Stains; Gate, Tatami Galaxy, Yuri! On ice, Showa Jenroku Rakugo ShinjuAnd so that the crowd would not chase me, Hunter X Hunter And My hero is Academy And Giant Slayer

Listen. Listen. I was ready to give it my all Jujutsu Kaisen This place. Its the first block Spy X family The episodes are not over yet. He feels arrogant like hell to give her the first place. And yet … after each episode of this delicious show, I say out loud: “Damn, I love this show. The characters worked in my heart in such a way that I laughed at the hearing at some point in each episode. The series is a master class on setting up stereotypes and then breaking them down, failing your expectations. More importantly, although the main characters cheat on each other and are forced to live in a world like a fierce Cold War, they and the show are warm and kind. Even if one of them is a killer. How is this possible? This is a miracle.
