The possibility of an extraterrestrial observation of the Earth is certainly being taken even more seriously in the United States: NASA announced this Thursday that an unknown galactic event, the launch of a multi-month probe into the famous UFO, has begun.
After the efforts of American intelligence, then by the Pentagon, it was NASA’s turn to investigate the presence of these objects, for example in our atmosphere abnormally or very fast moving, and which cannot be explained by the current state of our knowledge.
The space agency immediately insisted there was no evidence that there was an extraterrestrial source for these events. But if anyone asks me if I think there is compelling evidence of intelligent life in this phenomenon, I will give a perfectly acceptable answer to a scientist who I don’t know, “said Thomas Jarbuchen, NASA’s associate administrator at a news conference.
However, the issue could not be more important, as it concerns both national security and air traffic, the American agency argues.
Nine months of research began this fall
The study will be conducted by leading scientists and aeronautical experts. Scheduled to start early in the fall, it should last nine months and release a report.
Three objectives have been declared: to collect existing data, to determine what is missing and how it can be collected, and to determine what tools will be used for future analysis.
“Today we have a very limited set of these observations,” David Spergel, the lead astrophysicist in the field, announced at the same press conference. “It simply came to our notice then. A
However, according to NASA experts, a mountain of information actually exists, which they want to collect from the government, private companies, associations or even individuals. The allocated budget should not exceed 100,000.
The matter is being studied more seriously
The idea is to get rid of the stigma. “For me, one of the results of this study is to convince everyone (…) that the scientific process is valid for treating all problems, including this one,” said Thomas Jবুrbuchin, who decided to open the investigation himself.
In June 2021, U.S. intelligence claimed in a long-awaited report that there was no evidence of extraterrestrial existence, while acknowledging that dozens of incidents observed by military pilots could not be explained. And last month, for the first time in more than 50 years, the US Congress held a public hearing on it.
According to the Pentagon, a growing number of unknown objects have been reported in the sky over the past 20 years. And they inevitably provoke wild speculation.
“I think a new scientific process will be discovered,” said Thomas Jurbuchen. “There have been many cases where something that seemed almost magical has turned into a new scientific effect. A
“Never underestimate what nature is capable of,” he added.
Probably several different events
Experts have promised to start the project without any preconceived notions. But for David Spergel, UFOs probably combine different phenomena, which cannot be placed under a single interpretation. The study may not immediately shed light on many aspects, he acknowledged, but it does provide a roadmap for moving toward that goal in the future.
NASA is already searching for extraterrestrial life in space, for example, traces of ancient life in the form of germs on Mars, or technosignatures of other planets. But this is the first time the US space agency has seriously considered this possibility on Earth.
Daniel Evans, who is in charge of research for the space agency on Thursday, said: “I don’t think anyone has seen systematic phenomena in the past. But “over the decades, NASA has responded to the call to tackle some of the most amazing mysteries we know, and it’s no different.”
