[Mis à jour le 20 juillet 2022 à 11h34] Netflix lost nearly a million subscribers (970,000 to be exact) in the second quarter of 2022, the streaming giant announced on July 19, 2022. Stranger Things and The Gray Man, subscription related changes are expected.
Netflix has indicated that a billing system for account sharing will be implemented in 2023. It is currently in the pilot phase in some South American countries. For about 3 extra euros, an additional profile will allow you to take advantage of the platform outside the main residence that is geolocated by the platform. However, this billing is only applicable after 2 weeks of usage and only for viewing on one television. A cheaper subscription formula, but with ads and a less extensive catalog, will soon see the light of day on Netflix. This formula should also be launched in early 2023.
If a monthly subscription to Netflix is taken, it can also be canceled at any time and at no additional cost. The streaming platform offers three different subscriptions when you register on the site. It is not possible to benefit from free platform content. But which of the three subscription options to choose? Here are the different options available to you:
- If your budget is tightOpting for a subscription seems preferable essential, which, at €8.99/month, is the cheapest the streaming platform has to offer. However, this offer only offers one simultaneous screen and only one standard image quality: it shouldn’t be too much to use this account at the same time.
- If two people have to take advantage of the account Netflix In your family, membership may need to be chosen standard. For €13.49/month, this offer lets you watch two different contents on two screens simultaneously. Ideal for roommates, couples or small families. With this offer, you will also benefit from an HD image.
- Premium Member It’s ideal if you want to get the most out of it and aren’t too fussy about the price of your subscription, or if you’re a very large family or a large roommate where every member watches Netflix regularly. It’s an announcement that won’t reassure many Netflix subscribers. The streaming platform announced on March 16, 2022 that it was going to start a new experiment: charging more customers who share their accounts with people who don’t live in their household. For now, France is not affected by this measure.
The tests will begin next week in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru. In these countries, it will be possible to add “sub-accounts” for $2 or $3 Netflix’s director of product innovation, Chengyi Long, explained in a blog post that “we want to ensure that each new option is flexible and useful for our customers, whose subscriptions help fund quality films and series.” For several months, the streaming platform has been losing ground, registering 221.8 million subscribers, falling short of its targets. According to AFP, Netflix will register “only” 2.5 million new subscribers by the end of the first quarter of 2022.
For several years, Netflix has offered in France to benefit from a one-month free trial to get to know the platform and verify its subscription. From February 2020, it is no longer possible to benefit from the 30-day free trial: the subscription is paid from the first month of use. However, it is always possible to cancel your subscription at any time. As of today, there is no possibility to legally test Netflix for free.
After the price hike, Netflix will soon test the influx of ads to make up for the loss of subscribers. In any case, Netflix co-CEO, Ted Sarandos announced this during a trip to Cannes Lions. In return for advertising, the subscription should be cheaper for users, but the exact price has not been mentioned yet. We don’t even know when this new offering will be offered on the streaming platform, but American Media is talking about an early 2023 launch.
This is the new extension that has everyone tearing up the Internet right now: Netflix Party, a Google Chrome extension that allows its users to share a viewing session on Netflix with their friends and family. The concept is simple: everyone watches the same episode of the same series remotely, respecting strict synchronization, and everyone can participate in an exciting discussion via instant chat. During this period of French confinement, Netflix subscribers have found a way to ease the isolation a bit by turning to this extension that literally lets you “Netflix and chill” but remotely.
All you need to do is visit the Netflix Party site and click on “Install Netflix Party”. You will then be redirected to the Google Chrome Web Store, then click the “Add to Chrome” button A window will appear in the browser asking you to confirm the addition to Google Chrome, click “Add to Chrome”. As a reminder, the extension is only available for Google Chrome browser users So it is not possible to enjoy it with Safari, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.
Once the Netflix Party extension is installed, all you have to do is go to the Netflix site, choose the episode or movie you want to share with your friends or family, and start watching the video. Once the video starts, click on the red “NP” icon in the top right corner of your Google Chrome browser. The extension then asks you if you want to be in single control of the view (check “Only I have control” if you don’t want to share control with others). All you have to do is click on “Start Party”. Netflix Party then gives you a link to share your movie or episode with anyone you want to watch. Note that each of you must already have Netflix Party installed on Google Chrome, and each of you must be a Netflix subscriber to watch synced via Netflix Party.
