Summer is here, and with it high temperatures. And the summer of 2022 is particularly marked by heat waves. Instead of taking air conditioning for granted, we’ve selected and tested four fans (Rowenta, Dyson, Ohyama and Xiaomi) to make sure you’re your future best friend who is a fan.
- The Xiaomi Mi Smart Standing Fan 2, a low-cost fan that can be controlled by voice. 99 euros at Xiaomi (but often out of stock), about 75 euros at Amazon.
- The Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde, an ultra high-end fan-air purifier, with a futuristic design. 699 euros at Dyson
- The Rowenta Turbo Silence Extreme+, A very powerful propeller fan, with a silent mode perfect for sleeping in the middle of a heat wave. 159 euros at Rowenta, 99 euros at Amazon.
- The Ouzo by Ohyama, a small fan with an all-round design, sells for around 70 euros on Amazon A surprise that no one expected.
Is the summer of 2022 about to break a new heat record? Given the incredibly high temperatures in June and the heat wave in July, everything indicates that new heat waves will continue in France in the coming weeks. Who said the high heat usually shortage of stock for fans or other air conditioning, and so complicated evening. In this article, we suggest that you wait to buy your fan before the price increases and the stocks are at their lowest.
It should also be remembered that heat has many effects on the body and good habits should be adopted to avoid “heat stroke”: Stay hydrated, eat light and avoid going out after hours The hottest are special sanitary gestures that are constantly reminded, especially to the most fragile people.
It is possible to invest in auxiliary air conditioning to reduce the temperature, but a fan is a more practical, less expensive and more ecological solution. We have selected and tested three of them to help you choose from hundreds of more or less good references on the market.
Xiaomi: Low-cost connected fans
Known for its smartphones, computers, scooters, headphones, televisions and light bulbs (for almost everything), the Xiaomi brand also creates fans. One of their main strengths is their all-white, ultra-minimalist design, which is light years away from the boring looks of other competitors. Also called Connected by Xiaomi, the entire Mi Smart Standing Fan range can connect to Wi-Fi to be controlled via the Xiaomi Home app or Google Assistant. “Ok turn on google fan” This is a reality in Xiaomi, although the Xiaomi Home app offers many more options.
Xiaomi’s reference is the Mi Smart Standing Fan 2, offered at Mi Store for 99 euros (but often out of stock) and a 75 euros on Amazon. Since we couldn’t find one, we tested a more compact version, the Mi Smart Standing Fan 2 Lite (about 70 euros on Amazon). The design has quality (despite having a slightly short leg, it probably needs to be placed on a chair) and the ventilation is very pleasant, while being silent. Xiaomi has once again proved that it knows how to do it when it comes to value for money App Xiaomi Home Works great and lets you control your fan from your smartphone.
- Nice all white design
- It is application to control remotely
- calm down
Quiet and powerful: Rowenta Turbo Silence Xtreme+
So yes, on paper, Rowenta Fan isn’t the sexiest. Its design is similar to a lambda fan. It is driven using an “old fashioned” wheel and in terms of connectivity, there is nothing. This model has no Wi-Fi module or Bluetooth module, this is a fan that couldn’t be more classic.
However, Rowenta Turbo Silence Extreme+ works best by far. Its breath is super strong without making you cough, its footrest can easily be re-adjusted to raise it higher, and icing on the cake, its night mode is exceptional. It makes almost no sound, it’s amazing. Its propellers spin slowly, providing a gentle sense of freshness without overdoing it. This is our favorite fan so far, especially since its price of 159 euros is hardly applied in practice. It is available 99 euros on Amazon, which makes it a very good value for money lovers. Especially his acting.
- The strongest of our three fans
- Really cool silent mode
- An adjustable leg
- (but not connected and not very nice design)
Ultra high-end: Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde
Shall we introduce Dyson? You probably know the brand for the design of its products. Purifier Cool Formaldehyde is no exception to the rule. Forget the propellers, you can run this fan with your hands without risk. This is definitely a nice product that you want to have in your living room or in your bedroom, which is not the case with other fans.
Dyson purifiers are not sold as cool formaldehyde fans, they are sold as air purifiers. This creates a product in a different category than the previous two references in this article, filtering out an awful lot of stuff. Everything can be consulted from a very complete application, which provides precise information about the outside air and your room.
However, at 699 euros, it is essentially a design product. Its ventilation is nothing exceptional, you have to put it on high to really feel the fresh air, and above all, the modes that really cool the room make a lot of noise.
- An ultra-futuristic design
- Purifies the air
- A complete app
- (low ventilation)
Beautiful little-known surprise: Uzu by Ohyama
Coming from a lesser-known brand, the Woozoo fan has proven to be surprisingly efficient in use, rivaling well-known brands and models. First, because its ventilation is terrible: the stirring air is pleasant, the range is far (you can feel it at the other end of the room), and you can orient it 180 degrees vertically and horizontally in different possible configurations, thanks to its spherical shape that moves like a telescope.
Another advantage: “Natural breeze” mode. This function reduces the power, but automatically changes the fan power – the result looks like a nice strong cold breeze. This mode provides competitive silence, which makes ventilation very discreet and makes falling asleep easier.
The fan can be controlled completely remotely without even getting up from your sofa, thanks to a small remote control with buttons to switch on/off; For each power mode; to activate the wind; to manage the rotation; And even to activate a timer (three timer modes: 1 hour, 2 hours or 4 hours, useful for energy saving).
Small (21 x 29 cm), and rather cute, it is easily performed in the living room, on a desk, in a bedroom, with taste. In short, it’s a very nice surprise for an affordable price of 68 to 80 euros, depending on the color or the seller.
- A clever design
- A complete remote control
- A pleasant and very quiet “natural” breeze mode
- 4 highly efficient speed modes
- a timer
- Combined vertical and horizontal rotation
- Low prices for quality that challenge or even surpass much more expensive fans
